What if I get an error while purchasing a subscription?

When a subscription is purchased within the app, it must be registered with our servers, so that your subscription can be extended appropriately.  There are rare instances where something may go wrong during the registration process (such as Apple’s verification system not responding).  If this happens, you must force the app to try to register the subscription again.  It’s simple:

  1. Shut down iReconcile.  Remember, in iOS 4, apps don’t get shut down, just “suspended” when you exit them.  You MUST shut it down for this to work (see this post for instructions on how to properly shut down the app).
  2. Simply restart iReconcile.
  3. Wait for a couple of minutes.  The OS will automatically begin the registration process again.

Note that ONLY restarting the app will force the system to attempt to register the subscription again.  You cannot do this manually from within the app.

Restarting iReconcile in iOS 4

As many of you may know, apps do not shut down anymore when you click the home button on your iPhone. As of iOS 4, apps get “suspended,” meaning they freeze, or stop their execution, but they remain in memory. When you open the app again, it simply resumes execution from where it left off.

There are certain conditions in iReconcile that may require you to restart the app. If you receive a message requiring you to restart, follow these steps:

  1. Close the app as you normally would (by pressing the home button on your device). Remember, at this point the app is “suspended,” not shut down.
  2. Double-click the home button on your device.  You will see a list of apps appear at the bottom of the screen.  These are the suspended apps, or those still in memory.
  3. Find iReconcile in that list, and press-and-hold the icon until it “jiggles.”
  4. Press the red icon to close the app.
  5. You can now start the app as you normally would.

Submitting snapshots for troubleshooting support

Now that iReconcile supports snapshots, you can send a snapshot of your data to iReconcile’s support team for troubleshooting a problem. To do this, follow these procedures:

1. Within the app, navigate to Options > Database Snapshots
2. create a new snapshot. (if you already have a snapshot, skip this step)
3. Tap the blue arrow on the snapshot to be submitted.
4. Tap “Send To Support”
5. Add a brief summary of your problem, and send

Sending crash reports

If iReconcile keeps crashing on you, I may be able to fix the problem if I have a better idea of why the application crashed. Below are the steps to retrieving your iPhone’s crash reports:

Sync your iPhone with your computer
After syncing, retrieve the crash report for iReconcile in the log folders
Mac OS X:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/[DEVICE_NAME]

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\[USERNAME]\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/[DEVICE_NAME]

Windows Vista
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/[DEVICE_NAME]

Then email that crash report to me along with a description of the problem, and what you did (or think you did) to cause the crash.
